Discrete devices are single semiconductors like diodes or transistors in an electronic system used to affect electrons or their associated fields. Electronic components are mostly industrial products, available in a singular form and are not to be confused with electrical elements, which are conceptual abstractions representing idealized electronic components and elements. Power transistors are an important class of discrete devices and are used in a range of applications to regulate voltages, help lower power consumption, and reduce heat generation. They are classified into different types, based on their functions such as Diodes (Rectifier Diodes, Schottky Diodes, Zener Diodes) , Transistors (Field-effect transistors, MOSFETs , Composite transistors, IGBT, Thyristors), Thyristors(silicon-controlled rectifier- SCR, Triode for alternating current-TRAIC, Diode for alternating current-DIAC & Silicon diode for alternating current (SIDAC).
